Hennes & Mauritz(H&M) is a Swedish retail-clothing company that has over 2300 stores in 41 countries and is extremely popular for clothing offerings for women, men, teenagers and children. This company is especially famous for selling affordable clothes all over the world. Recently H&M has been working with different haute-couture creating designers such as Lanvin and Roberto Cavalli but this time H&M creative director Margareta Van Den Bosch- woman who brought the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo offered H&M's clients brand new and very ambitious collection. Fashion-giant H&M launched a project in association with well-known brand Versace.
Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Hudson and Selma Blair, amongst others, turned out in New York last night to join Donatella Versace for the launch of Versace's H&M collection. From her ultra-blond hair to her super-high heels, Donatella Versace uses every inch of her being to embrace glamour. A specially-designed building on the Hudson River hosted a Versace for H&M catwalk show, modelled by Abbey Lee Kershaw, Daphne Groeneveld, Natasha Poly and Lindsay Wixson.
Tropical floral patterns splashing on tight leggings and tunic tops, and heart-print dresses covered with beaded fringe were part of the famous collection. Many models wore hot-pink strappy sandals and carried printed handbags with the South Beach motif and Versace's Medusa logo during catwalk. Many of the styles were updated interpretations of signature looks of the house as it was first designed by the late Gianni Versace and for the last fourteen years by his sister Donatella. There even was a black dress with gold hardware reminiscent of the label's safety-pin gown made famous by Elizabeth Hurley.
It is quite reasonable for less expensive company such as H&M to create a collection together with a high-street brand. However, how profitable is it for the designer like Versace? Even if we leave alone profit side of this cooperation, the reputation of Versace will be still questionable after November 17th when collection will be available for customers in stores. Do designers try to bring more clients from broad audience rather than working for upper east side girls, actors and models?
